Hi, I'm Janice — the baker behind rooot.
I'm a Korean-American who grew up surrounded by the flavors of two cultures. My love for baking started in Hawaii, where I launched a small home-based cookie business. What began as a creative outlet quickly became a passion — experimenting with textures, balancing sweetness, and finding joy in sharing something handmade with others.
Since then, I've spent years learning and growing as a baker — from perfecting laminated doughs to exploring the science behind fermentation. Every recipe I develop is a reflection of that journey: thoughtful, intentional, and made with care.
Now based in Seattle, I'm building rooot as a small-batch bakery rooted in quality ingredients and personal connection. Everything is baked by hand in small quantities, because I believe the best things are worth taking time over.
Whether it's a loaf of sourdough for your morning toast or a cake for a special occasion, I pour the same love into every single thing I make.
